Showtime!!!!!!
As the years before, the band performed at all the football games, pep rallys, and Meet the Cubs.
On October 10, 1997, the band performed at the homecoming parade and provided the music for the homecoming court and crowning of the queen.

They competed in The West Virginia Classic Marching Festival on October 4, 1997.
On October 25,1997, IHS Band of Gold made not only the IHS proud but also McDowell County when they performed in the annual Concord College Marching Festival. On that Saturday the band walked away winners of 1st Place Band, 1st Place Marching, 1st Place Music, 1st Place Auxillary, 2nd Place Field Commanders, and 2nd Place Percussion. In addition to those honors, they also recieved a rating of 1 which is a Superior Rating!!!!!!!!!!!!
1997 Concord Competition!
On November 11th they marched in the Veteran's Day parade and served as host band once again. On December 3, 1997, the band performed for the ground breaking for the new Sandy River Middle School. Shortly after that on December 15, 1997, The Band of Gold held the "Holly Jolly Rocking Christmas Concert"
As in every year before, the band performed for Boys' and Girl's basketball games. On April 25, 1998, they traveled to Bluefield for the annual band rating festival where once again they were rated 2.
Ratings Festival!
On May 14, 1998, the band held their "Spring into Summer" Spring Concert! A week later on May 21, 1998, the annual band banquet was held to award the band members for their hard work and extra effort. Band Banquet 1998!
As always, on May 31, 1998, the band went to Carowinds for the Spring Performance Trip. Just like in 1997, they entertained people at the gates of Carowinds. Carowinds 1998!
To finish up the busy, successful year, the band performed for awards day and gradution!
